My first
real recipe. I made this
applesauce cake while in high school.
¾ cup
shortening
1½ cups
sugar
2 eggs
3 cups
flour
1½ tsp
soda
¾ tsp
salt
¾ tsp
cloves
1½ tsp
cinnamon
1½ cups
applesauce
1 cup
raisins
1 cup
chopped nuts
Cream
together shortening, sugar and eggs. Beat well. Sift together flour,
soda, salt
and spices. Add alternately with applesauce to creamed mixture. Add
raisins and
nuts. Pour into 9 inch greased tube pan. Bake in moderate oven 325° to
350° one hour. Let stand
until cold and remove from pan.
To make
a
fruitcake add candied fruit and peel to above.
