This
recipe was given to me when we
lived in the projects the first time. I don’t recall the lady’s name
that gave
it to me—probably in 1947.
1
cup milk
1 Tbsp
salt
5 Tbsp
sugar
1 cup
luke
warm water
1 cake
yeast (1 pkg) (I use 2 pkgs)
6 Tbsp
melted shortening
6 to 7
cups flour
Scald
milk, add salt and sugar to milk. Mix water and yeast, let milk mixture
cool,
then add to water and yeast. Stir in 3 cups flour. Stir until smooth,
add
shortening and rest of flour. Knead, let rise, shape for rolls or
bread, let
rise again. Bake at 400° or 425° for
rolls and 325° or 350° for
bread.
I
can eat a dozen of these.—Mike
