Sift dry ingredients
into bowl. Add shortening, milk and
vanilla. Beat on medium speed for 2 minutes. Add eggs, beat 2 more
minutes.
Bake at 350°--35 to 40 minutes for
layers, 40 to 45 minutes for oblong.
Easy Caramel Icing for Spice Cake
1½ cups
brown sugar
¼ cup
milk
2 Tbsp
oleo
1 tsp
vanilla
Mix
brown sugar, milk and oleo together in pan. Bring to a
boil and boil 3 minutes, stirring constantly. Remove from heat. Add
vanilla.
Cool to lukewarm. Beat until creamy and thick enough to spread. Add a
little
milk if necessary to make it easier to spread.
